Success Story: How LinkedIn Helped One Firm ‘Connect’ with a Recruit

From time to time we hear great success stories from our clients that we want to share with the world. Recently, we went through training with a firm on LinkedIn. A few days later, we got the following email:

Today, I was interviewing students at the University of X. One student talked quite a bit about how much he’d enjoyed his volunteer experiences. He said he’d looked me up on LinkedIn and noticed that I had substantial volunteer experience, too. He asked me numerous questions about my experience, outside of my firm. In his thank you note to me after the interview, rather than talking up his interest in working for the firm, he focused on how much he enjoyed talking to me about my volunteer experience (which was a very brief part of the interview). The moral of this story, to me, is that people meet people, not firms. He was interested in my story, and he likes people like me, who volunteer. He would probably accept an offer, even though he won’t work with me directly (interview was for another office), simply because of that connection. There is no other way he would have known these things about me if it were not for LinkedIn. Very inspiring to me to get to those updates soon!

People are your business. Which means they want to get to know you. People influence why they join or leave your firm. What are you giving them to sink their teeth into? Do they have the opportunity to get to know you beforehand?

LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, your website and recruiting events are great ways to provide prospective candidates insight into who your PEOPLE are. Don’t underestimate the value.
